THE FUTURE OF NUTRITION
Imagine that there was no single food that was bad for everyone or good for everyone -- not chocolate, not kale, not cookies, not a big salad, not a banana, not coffee. Imagine something you love to eat -- something you think is a terrible dietary choice (like a juicy steak or bowl of ice cream) is actually okay to eat and won't have a negative effect on your health. What if a food you hate -- something you force down because you think it is good for you or will help you lose weight and avoid health problems (like rice cakes or steamed fish) -- is exactly the wrong thing for you?
There is no answer to the question of the perfect diet because it is the wrong question. Personalized Nutrition is the future of nutrition. It looks at the foundational way that food affects your body at the cellular level. It is an emerging field that focuses on finding the root cause of disease.
Food is much more than calories...there are millions of molecules of information in every bite of food you take, affecting how your cells react and how you feel. These molecules come into your body and influence every organ system and metabolic pathway. In fact, there is a growing body of science revealing new insights and opportunities around the role of food as essential in changing the course of chronic diseases, improving cognition and mood, normalizing sleeping patterns, ameliorate digestive issues and enhancing exercise performance (and muscle recovery). It is this holistic approach to nutrition we take with each client.
Our diet has changed dramatically in the last century. The introduction and influence of processed foods throughout our food system, far more intake of animal protein and dairy, and the ubiquity of high fructose corn syrup and simple carbohydrates are all directly connected to many metabolic disorders. Additionally, the amount of food we consume has multiplied, and our plates and portion sizes have grown as well. All of this impacts our health, with short- and long-term consequences that build as we age.
We all need the same basic elements -- essential amino acids, carbohydrates, fatty acids, minerals and vitamins -- to maintain and live a healthy life. It's the balance between these that has been thrown out of whack in our daily environment.
Personalized Nutrition takes this entire picture into account to bring health-promoting foods and physical activity into your life.
